“Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.” – Psalm 100
How awesome! God invites us into His presence and tells us just how to get there. We are granted a means of access into His attendance simply by coming with a grateful, thankful heart and we move even closer to Him by paying compliments to His greatness. He is worthy of praise because: He is God and we are not; He made us, so there is no such thing as a “self-made man/woman”; we are His people so there is no need to draw lines of separation among us; His mercy and truth continue forever and ever and He is eternally good. Plainly stated, He is everything we are not and everything we would like to be!
At the Bridge Christian Fellowship you’ll find believers from all different walks of life and at all different levels of spiritual maturity. But there is one thing we all have in common…we love to worship Jesus, the risen Lord! God has communicated to us throughout Scripture many ways in which we can express our worship to Him, but He never said whether or not He prefers Country music, Pop, Rock and Roll, praise choruses, or the classic hymns. These styles are merely preferences. I guess we, too, have our own styles, but none of these define true worship. Devotional writer, Richard Foster, said this about our styles of worship: “Forms and rituals do not produce worship, nor does the disuse of forms and rituals. We can use all the right techniques and methods, we can have the best possible liturgy, but we have not worshiped the Lord until Spirit touches spirit…Singing, praying, praising all may lead to worship, but worship is more than any of them. Our spirit must me ignited by the divine fire.” (Richard Foster, Celebration of Discipline, pp. 158-159) We continually make it our aim to seek and touch the face God, the Consuming Fire. We need Him more than anything!
